Last Minute Gift Ideas

We have a bunch more gift ideas for those who are scrambling on the last Christmas shopping day! We have both large, big ticket ideas as well as smaller stocking stuffer ideas. We have gifts covering a wide range of price ranges, we sure hope we have helped you find the perfect gift to give your friends and family members who have a quilting and sewing passion like us!

Lara has a great idea with the Turn It All set -- you've never so easily turned straps and loops. It is truly a life saving tool!

Both Orva and Peggy want an Olfa cutting mat! They come in three sizes, but let's be honest, any devout quilter will always want the largest to have the optimal amount of cutting space.

Pay close attention to Tammy's list if you are looking for gifts for a applique quilter or for those who love needlework. All her items are designed to help make hand sewing easier and enjoyable.

We hope we helped you find the right gift for those on your list with this fun series! It was a lot of fun to discover what each of the employees would love to receive for Christmas -- it was an amusing look into each of our quilting/sewing personalities.

So our customers are informed, we will be closing early on Christmas Eve at 5 pm and will be closed Christmas Day. Stay tuned on the day after Christmas for a big announcement! Merry Christmas from everyone at Fabric Center!

All I Want for Christmas...

We are back with our employee Wish Lists and today we have Deb and Karen. Deb's Wish List is a good idea to look at if you know someone who loves hand needlework and applique quilting; her items are designed to make needlework and applique easier and enjoyable. Karen reveals with her list how much she loves receiving fabric by the yard: this isn't that bad of an idea. With just even half a yard of a hand full of fabrics from a beautiful designer line, any sewer is bound to excitedly think of a dozen projects she/he could make with those pieces!

Don't wait too long to grab up these fantastic gift ideas, Christmas is next week with only one more shopping Saturday left! Even more important, that means only one more week to get all these items 15% off! Hope to see you soon!

Christmas Gift Ideas

We are continuing on with our employee Christmas Wish List today, featuring Debby and Cyndi! Take a good look at Debby's Wish List: she has wonderful little items that would be perfect stocking stuffers! Cyndi isn't without some good tips too: knits are extremely popular right now as are chevron prints. Score double points with chevron jersey knit for maxi skirts, or even better considering our weather, for infinity scarves!

We sure hope this fun countdown gives you inspiration for what to gift your sewer/quilter on your list. For more ideas, stay tuned for the rest of our employees' wish lists or make a trip in to see us; you can fill out your own Christmas Wish list to pass on to your significant others so they know exactly what to get you this Christmas. Make your Christmas dollars stretch farther: shop with us for 15% off all regularly priced items until December 23rd!

Our Christmas Wish List

As promised, we wanted to do something special to help you come up with great gift ideas for the sewer/quilter in your life (or better yet, give you ideas on what to ask Santa for) as well as get us all excited on the days leading up to Christmas. What we have come up with is Christmas Wish Lists from each of our employees featuring what they would ask Santa for from items that can be found at Fabric Center! In the next couple weeks leading up to Christmas, we will unveil a few lists each unique to the clerk who made it. This week we have Katie and Marilyn:

Keep checking back as we reveal more clerk Christmas wish lists and more gift ideas! Come on in and make your own Christmas Wish List, we have them sitting on the table next to the Christmas tree as you first walk in.

Take a stroll around the store and write down what you'd like to see under your tree Christmas morning and give it to your family and friends so they know exactly what to give you. We look forward to seeing you!

Our Customers Inspire Us!

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are so thankful for you our customers, as well as inspired by you! We love when we have show and tell in the store and we'd like to keep sharing how talented our customers are!

A couple months back we had a Block of the Week class in which students made adorable quilts from Kimberbell Patterns titled "Home is Where the Haunt Is" and once Halloween was over and the quilts were no longer needed for display, their owners were happy to share their success with us!

Janet Stringham did such an amazing job on her "Home is Where the Haunt Is" quilt!
You can get an up close look at what goes into these quilts, this one loving done by Lorri Nordgren.
Another class that just got finished was the QuiltSmart Club Lonestar Class. We had such a great turn out and response for the class, we are looking at teaching it again along with the rest of the QuiltSmart Club classes. If you like what you see here, done by Heather Willden, check out our information on this fun club on our website.

Way to go Heather, you did a beautiful job!

Lara was quick thinking and took pictures of Richelle Seawright's hard work last week when she shared these Christmas presents she had made with cuddle!

Her Christmas version of a cuddle strip quilt
Cuddle Strip Quilt with a cuddle stocking, complete with embroidered name!

Thank you for constantly inspiring us with your creativity and skill. We love show and tell, so if there is something special you made with materials and/or advice from Fabric Center, please send us an email at with pictures and background information or come in and share with everyone behind the counter!

Special Guest from Shannon Fabrics!

We were incredibly excited to receive a special guest yesterday to the store! Shannon Fabrics is the maker of one of our favorite fabrics: cuddle. Shannon Fabrics is the industry leader in plush fabric, offering the widest selection of plush fabrics, like cuddle and faux fur, in the World! Shannon Fabrics recently held a contest called the Sweetest Rewards Contest aimed at rewarding their loyal customers, divided into three categories of purchasers. Fabric Center was entered into the contest at the highest level, or the "Sweetest" level, as being one of Shannon's top purchasers in the nation (if you can't infer by our reputation for having the best selection of cuddle in the Salt Lake Valley and at the best prices too, we go through a lot of cuddle!! On average, we place a new order of cuddle every two weeks. Wow!). Low and behold we won!

Arvin Pairavi visited us yesterday to award Lisa, the owner of Fabric Center, the winner of the Shannon Fabrics Sweetest Rewards Member Contest! By winning, Lisa will get advantages for shipping and ordering new cuddle prints, access to design specialist who will share special cuddle projects to display in store as well as to opportunity to travel to Spring Quilt Market 2014 and get a Behind the Scenes experience with Shannon while they represent at Quilt Market. This will be a wonderful experience for Lisa to explore what will be next on the horizon in the quilting and fabric industry and what to carry in store to meet the needs of our customers!

Not only was Mr. Pairavi impressed by our large cuddle selection, including our beautiful color coded cuddle wall, he also shared some insight into the special nature of cuddle and what sets it apart from other plush material. Did you know that the term "Cuddle" is actually a proprietary term held by Shannon Fabrics? We didn't either, and  if you are at all familiar with plush material, you like us have become used to hearing the terms "cuddle" and "minkee" interchanged randomly. However, there is a big difference between the two. Cuddle is heavier with a thicker, longer pile whereas minkee tends to be thinner and lighter. To ensure you have the warmest and softest blanket that will wear and hold up for years to come, buy Cuddle from Shannon fabrics (always available here at Fabric Center).

It was such a pleasure to receive a visit from Shannon Fabrics. Keep checking back with us as we look forward to working with them to bring you tips, tricks, projects and other cuddle updates. To get an idea, check our their blog: My Cuddle Corner. Congratulations to Lisa for winning the grand prize, but also a giant thank you to you our customers! We are so happy that we can provide such a large array of plush fabric to meet the needs and wishes of our customers, and to be able to do so at great prices. As Shannon Fabric's motto goes, "Making the world a softer place", we love knowing we help our customers bring warmth and softness into their homes to share with their families while making it affordable to do so. Once again thank you!

With cuddle on the brain, don't forget: we have all our bolted cuddle on sale 10% off as well as all solid color and dimple cuddle on sale for $12! These make excellent Christmas gifts, stop in before the end of the month to get your cuddle on sale. See you in store!

New Fabrics Have Arrived!

We got a whole bunch of new fabric lines in these last few days by Windham, Moda and Riley Blake. All us clerks are dying over which is our favorite and praying we'll be receiving a pay check this month... that is if we haven't spent it on all this new fabric!

What we are really excited to share is our 4 new bolts of 90" wide chevron quilt backing! Chevrons are so popular and chic and now you can back your quilt in one of these awesome prints! They are $6.97 a yard and come in black, red, navy and gray!

As soon as this beautiful line was put on the floor customers were purchasing yardage! This line is called Wallflowers and is by Windham Fabrics. This is going to be a popular line, we can tell, and it won't surprise us if it sells out quickly! To see details of this line, check out Windham Fabric's official page for the line here.

This line by Moda is so rich and the colors can simply be described as "juicy". Not only is the fabric cute but we love the name of the line: Bobbins and Bits. To see details of this line, visit Moda's website here

We've featured this line previously as precuts, but we have finally received Scrumptious by Moda in yardage! And it is absolutely scrumptious, definitely a line to make your mouth water. Find the details of this line here.

Another line by Moda that we are so excited to now be carrying is Bluebird Park. Yep, those are little hedgehogs you see there, along with adorable bikes, balloons and other cute critters. Details can be found here

The last of our newest Moda shipments is Wren Friends. I believe Lisa, the owner, particularly loves this line because she bought every single print in the line! Yep, we have them all and each one is lovely, especially these border prints! For details, check out Moda's website here.

What fun colors! This line is called My Sunshine and is by Riley Blake. Check out Riley Blake's official page for this line for details.

This Riley Blake line featuring adorable little birds is called Lovey Dovey. This is perfect for early Valentine's Day projects (I know it's too early to be discussing Valentine's Day when we still have Thanksgiving and Christmas to think of first. But with a line this cute, I just can't help myself!) Find details about Lovey Dovey here

We're dying over this cute line. Not only is it absolutely adorable, but it goes to benefit a good cause. This is Think Pink! by Riley Blake and is to raise breast cancer awareness! Find out more about this line here

Finally we have a line for the boys: Snips and Snails by Riley Blake. This line is also available in flannel. To find out more about this adorable line, find it here

All these fun new lines by Moda, Riley Blake and Windham can be found at Fabric Center in West Jordan, Utah and, as always, at our wonderful prices. Don't forget our motto: Service, Selection, Savings!
